About Tuscan Place Assisted Living

Mike and Sandy Messer bring a combined 30 years of experience in the senior care industry.

Mike became a Certified Nursing Assisted in the early 1990s. At the time, he provided in-home care for seniors. He went on to open his first assisted living home in the Mesa/Gilbert area in 1998. He operated the facility for the following 11 years.

Time spent managing this type of facility gave Mike insight into how challenging it can be for families to find the right senior care home for a loved one. He identified a need and worked to fill it by offering placement services to help elderly people find the best assisted living options based on their needs.

Sandy brings a background in marketing and accounting to the business. She operates Long Term Assurance, a company that assists veterans and their spouses in applying for Aide and Attendance Benefits (a pension plan that provides financing for long-term care).

Sandy’s financial and marketing expertise and Mike’s placement knowledge created a winning combination for the pair and the clients that they support.

Mike’s work allowed him to tour more than 1,000 assisted living homes that serve hundreds of families. He became familiar with Tuscan Place Assisted Living (formerly East Shea Assisted Living).

When East Shea owners Maria and Vio Biluaca decided it was time to retire after 30 years in the business, Mike jumped at the opportunity to purchase the facility.

The home provided all the beauty, comfort, and safety Mike wanted to see in a group home. It is also located in desirable Scottsdale, just minutes from the Mayo clinic. It was the ideal environment to build a senior care business. Rather than passing up a golden opportunity, Mike and Sandy purchased the property, and the rest is history.
